My father, Robert R. Chapman, Sr., died June 9, 2021, in Normandy Park, Washington. The committal of his ashes will be at Tahoma National Cemetery near Kent, Washington. This happens on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at 1:00 pm, with military honors. Those planning to attend, please be present by 12:45 pm.
In addition to the committal at Tahoma, we are considering a memorial service in late August at this time, when some family members from St. Louis said they might be able to attend.
With the surge of COVID-19 cases this summer and the number of breakthrough cases (vaccinated people getting ill), it was decided to delay any memorial service until later. My brother lives in assisted living.
Why the committal at Tahoma before a possible memorial service in August? My father was in the United States Army. Twice. And saw combat.
These honors are important to his memory, even if the memorial service does not happen. He will rest in peace with this.
The following is not my father’s obituary. That will come later.
