Committal of the ashes of Robert Chapman Sr.

Leaving the Army

My father did leave the US Army voluntarily at my mother’s request, even though he was offered a direct commission if he stayed. He had the highest outstanding ratings evaluating his work at Leavenworth twice in a row. It was a decision they both regretted later.

I know that in many ways, my dad never left the Army. He carried memories of that service, both joyful and painful.
