Phony Chinese Proverb

The saying in Chinese characters

"With digital hegemony, visual messages have reasserted their position as an important communication medium, but at the cost of not recognizing the combination of words and pictures as vital in communication." —Paul Martin Lester.

Microsoft Windows Server UA Team

As an editor, I converted information from subject matter experts into usable information for a compiled HTML help file. This is a Word 2010 version of the content what went into the help file (.chm), minus some legal boilerplate text.

MediaPro/Verizon Wireless

This course was designed for technical staff to teach a new process. Shown is one module from the complete web-based training course. Because this is only part of the course, much of the background information is missing (purpose of course, benefits of completing course, how evaluations are completed, who to contact if you have problems).

There has been some changes in the wrapper so that this module plays without the learning content management system.

AT&T Mobility

Premier Online Portal Demonstration

This was the first draft of a demonstration that, by the time I had finished it, had management expectations grow in hope that it would fulfill three separate functions:

  • Serve as an aid for someone doing a live demonstration of AT&T Premier.
  • Allow a customer to find out about AT&T Premier from the website without being a full sales demonstration or training demonstration. This is what I had started out to accomplish.
  • Serve as a sales demonstration.

After seeing this draft, management was better able to decide how to define the overall project.

It was also decided after seeing this that production of this demonstration needed to be moved to the Atlanta office to be with the web design team. Atlanta is the location of the Flash developers, which were needed because of the limitations to designing the user interface when using Captivate. The goal in making the move was to make sure the final product met AT&T "Web 2.0" design standards.

Note. The width and height of this demonstration is too large. This was done because this was a draft. Because of size, I moved the progress bar to the left edge so the user could see it on a smaller monitor.

Sales Demonstration Storyboard

I created this sales demonstration storyboard for Flash developers in Atlanta.

User Interface Text (Web Content)

These documents provide the user interface text for some changes to the Premier customer portal.

Articles for the Living Church

I have dabbled in a little journalism in order to keep fresh in my other writing. It also keeps me humble by having an editor take the words I write and work them into the needs of the publication.

My instructions from the news editor were to always write "a little extra, as I will always edit down to size. If you don't provide enough in the article you submit and I have more room, it is harder to add."

Here are some articles as I submitted them to the Living Church, with links to how they were published on-line. (Print versions are different from web versions, usually.) Other articles may be found searching for my name—Robert R. Chapman, Jr.—on the Living Church website.

The Rev. Dr. Gregory Rickel elected 8th Bishop of Olympia

I called the news editor with an article with the results immediately after the election. Another article was submitted later that Saturday by e-mail from home.
